Frequently asked questions
Good to know
Who is the Buddenbohm Polaris suitable for?
The Polaris is a bass trombone in Bb/F/Eb with Rotax fourth and fifth valves and a large 9.5" bell. It delivers a powerful foundation for symphony orchestras, wind orchestras and big bands. Max Schmidt plays this model as a soloist.
What are the technical specifications of the Polaris?
Bb/F/Eb pitch, .562" / 14.3 mm bore, one-piece hand-hammered brass bell 9.5" / 241 mm, Rotax fourth and fifth valves, brass outer slide with round slide crook, interchangeable bell and leadpipe, clear lacquered.
What does the Buddenbohm Polaris cost?
The base price is €8,500 (polished, incl. 19% VAT, as of April 2026).
What is the difference between the Polaris and the Pollux?
Both are bass trombones with the same bore and bell size. The Polaris uses Rotax valves with a round slide crook, the Pollux Hagmann valves with a square slide crook – which results in different response and tonal characters. A direct comparison in our showroom is well worth it.
What are the fourth and fifth valves for?
The F-attachment valve lowers the instrument to F, while the second valve (fifth) extends the range downwards and creates alternative slide positions – indispensable for modern bass trombone repertoire.
